Rainwater Tank & Cistern Rebates

Did you know you can get big rebates for rainwater cisterns?

SoCal WaterSmart is a program from the Metropolitan Water District that offers rebates on rainwater barrels and cisterns for their customers. These are available through most water agencies in Southern California.

In addition, Monrovia, Pasadena and Santa Monica add supplemental funds to these rebates. Residents can apply for rebates directly through the SoCalWater$mart website and receive rebate checks that include both MWD and City contributions after they have purchased and installed the rain tanks.

How much can I save?

Depending on the tank and your city, the rebate can cover 20-100% of the cost of the cistern. Tanks just over 200 or 500 gallons tend to have the best cost-to-rebate ratio, and we recommend at least 500 gallons of storage for effective rainwater harvesting.
