surge tanks are not for storing greywater, which will
grow bacteria and turn septic if stored longer than 24
hours. they are to temporarily hold surges of water that
occur for example when the washing machine
dischages 20 gallons. they allow the greywater
distribution system to catch up with heavy flows.
